In terms of defense spending, Uzbekistan ranks second in the CIS after Russia
According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies, global defense spending increased from $2.24 trillion to $2.46 trillion in 2024. NATO countries spend the most on defense.According to the Global Firepower 2025 report, Russia's defense budget is $126 billion. Among the EAEU and Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan comes next with a budget of $2.8 billion. Kazakhstan spends $2 billion on defense, while Armenia spends $1.7 billion.
The defense budgets of Turkmenistan and Belarus are $1.1 billion each. The lowest defense spending is observed in Kyrgyzstan ($221.8 million) and Tajikistan ($446 million).
Amid a reduction in American military aid to European countries due to a reorientation toward countering China, France has a chance to become the leading military force in Europe. The country plans to increase its military budget by one and a half times, to almost 100 billion dollars.
