Shooting sports to be popularized in Uzbekistan
On November 4, 2024, the President of Uzbekistan signed a Resolution aimed at supporting and popularizing shooting sports. The document provides for the creation of conditions for training athletes and the formation of new curricula.Equipment of Sports Bases
The Resolution provides for the creation of shooting sports bases with a distance of 10 meters in the centers that train athletes for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. These bases will be equipped with modern equipment and inventory for full-fledged training.
New Curricula for Training Specialists
From the academic year 2025/2026, the Uzbek State University of Physical Education and Sports will open bachelor's degree programs in the specialties "Sports activities: shooting and clay pigeon shooting". The new curriculum will allow training qualified specialists for shooting sports.
Improving the Qualifications of Coaches and Judges
In order to improve the level of professional training of coaches, judges and breeders, seminars, trainings and master classes will be organized. Domestic and foreign experts will be invited to them, which will ensure high-quality training of specialists for national teams.
Annual Competitions and Championships
Starting in 2025, major competitions will be held annually:
The Mergan Cup for paramilitary and law enforcement officers, demonstrating the level of training and professional skills of the participants.
Uzbekistan Championships in shooting sports, designed for athletes of different age categories, contributing to the development and popularization of the discipline among young people and adults.
Creation of Sports Groups in Schools
For wider coverage of shooting sports, the Resolution provides for the creation of sports groups in shooting sports in sports schools at the district and city level. This will allow young people to gain access to systematic training and participation in competitions.
Studying the Basics of Shooting in School Programs
Starting from the new academic year 2025/2026, classes will be held in comprehensive schools during the "Initial Pre-Conscription Training" classes, where students will be able to study the tactical and technical characteristics of firearms and pneumatic sporting weapons. It is planned to use the training bases of military units, military training grounds and specialized institutions for practical classes.
The measures taken are aimed at creating a solid foundation for the development of shooting sports, training specialists and increasing interest in the discipline among different age groups.
