Regional security priorities in Central Asia were discussed in Tashkent
Representatives of government agencies, international organizations, the diplomatic corps and the academic community gathered at the international conference “Regionalism and Stability: Ensuring Security in Central Asia in the Face of Global Change” to discuss ways to further strengthen regional cooperation, maintain peace and ensure security in the face of rapidly changing global challenges. The event was organized by the University of Military Security and Defense together with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Antti Karttunen, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan, emphasized the growing importance of an integrated approach to security: “Security is not only about military capabilities. The concept also includes strong public institutions, sustainable economic growth, environmental sustainability, the rule of law and human well-being. True security is possible in a society where trust in state institutions is combined with active cooperation with neighboring countries and effective mechanisms for responding to new challenges.”
Ambassador Antti Karttunen noted that the OSCE`s multidimensional security concept - including political-military, economic-environmental and human dimensions - provides a reliable basis for coordinated action and strengthening stability in the region in the face of modern challenges.
Participants discussed key aspects of regional security, including strengthening cooperation mechanisms, increasing digital resilience in the face of new cyber threats, countering transnational organized crime, assessing the impact of climate change on regional security, and promoting openness and trust between institutions and communities.
The conference provided a platform for sharing experiences, discussing scientific research and finding innovative approaches to strengthening stability in Central Asia.
