Uzbekistan Establishes Institute of Cryptology and Innovations Amid Rising Cyber Threats.
The President signed a resolution to establish the Institute of Cryptology, Information Security and Innovative Technologies on the basis of the Center for Radio Electronic Systems and Information Technologies at Tashkent University of Information Technologies named after Muhammad al-Khwarizmi.
Among the institute's main tasks are retraining and professional development of specialists in the fields of cryptology, information protection, information and cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, big data processing, digital forensics and digital technologies.
The institute will also conduct research and development work, participate in the implementation of fundamental, applied and innovative projects, as well as develop regulatory legal documents, national standards and regulations in these areas.
In coordination with the authorized body in the field of cybersecurity, the institute will be able to develop, produce, sell and certify cryptographic and technical means of protecting restricted information.
In addition, it will conduct expert reviews of information resources and systems of government agencies and organizations, including critical information infrastructure facilities, for compliance with cybersecurity requirements, assess their level of security and certify facilities where restricted information is processed.
Employees of the institute, as well as invited teachers and specialists, will be provided with mortgage loans to purchase housing in new buildings in the Tashkent region.
The down payment must be at least 15% of the housing cost. The loan will be provided using funds from commercial banks for a period of 20 years at the interest rate established by law.
An extra-budgetary Development Fund will also be established under the institute. It will be formed from income from certification and other services, sales of developed technical means, as well as sponsorship donations and other sources.
The fund's resources will be directed to strengthening the material and technical base, developing the library, financing educational, scientific and production activities, research projects and providing material incentives for employees.
