A new Agency for the control of drugs and firearms will be established in Uzbekistan. The corresponding decree was signed by the President as part of the public administration reform.

The agency will be established based on the National Drug Control Center. The new structure will deal both with combating illegal drug trafficking and controlling the circulation of firearms.

In addition, the decree provides for other changes:

  • The Agency of Information and Mass Communications is being dissolved, and its monitoring functions are being transferred to the Inspectorate for Control in the Field of Informatization and Telecommunications;
  • The Center for Mass Communications is being transferred to the jurisdiction of the Presidential Administration;
  • A Media Content Training Center is being established under the Presidential Press Service;
  • The Agency for Civil Service Development is being transformed into the Agency for Management Efficiency;
  • The Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art is also being placed under the control of the Presidential Administration.

By September 1, 2025, draft regulations must be developed aimed at:

  • reducing bureaucratic barriers,
  • eliminating overlapping functions,
  • improving transparency in decision-making,
  • expanding the powers of local authorities in the areas of regional development, employment, and population income.

These steps are being taken in the wake of the recent large-scale anti-drug operation "Koradori", during which extensive raids were conducted across the country. Large quantities of drugs, weapons, and money were seized, and dozens of suspects were detained.
